Did you know... we've got Hutch studios in England, Scotland and Canada! Each studio has its own unique personality, whilst also sharing common goals of putting Hutchies first and creating lovely places to work. In a series of blog posts we're going to give you a tour of all three offices, and today it's Canada's turn! Here's Chris, our Technical Director to give you a tour of the Nova Scotia studio...

Tell us a bit about your role…

I’m a programmer on the Tools and Technology team, our role is to make tools and software to allow the game teams to focus on making great games, while we handle the other bits.

How many people in the Nova Scotia studio?

There are 10 of us at Hutch Canada! Our primary focus is tool and technology, but we recently started helping out making games as well. We have programmers, production, QA and Office admin.

The Office Location

How would you describe where the office is?

Hutch Canada is located on the South Shore of Nova Scotia, Canada in a small town called Mahone Bay. We’re surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, beautiful beaches, and forests.

What’s good about being based where you are?

How easy it is to get away from it all. If I'm ever feeling like I need a break I can go for a hike, mountain biking, fishing, surfing, or ice skating… We’re big on outdoor sport over here!

Any favourite places people like to get lunch from?

Famous Town Pie Shop! (They’re famous)

The Office Personality

What 3 words best describe the office vibe?

Chill.

How is your office similar to the other Hutch offices?

It’s a very open, comfortable space that people can move freely through and relax.

How is your office different to the other Hutch offices?

Ours is made out of wood.

What 3 items could your office not live without (aside from all the tech you need)?

Coffee/tea, baked goods from the local shops and Blueberry mini-wheats breakfast cereal.

What’s the trickiest part of managing the office?

We’re a small team of very opinionated gamers, sometimes this makes it hard to pick out board games to play on team days.

What’s the most fun part of managing the office?

Being a small team, we’ve all got very close and learned a lot about each other.
