UI Artist

Hutch is looking for a UI Artist to join the team in London and deliver visually impressive free to play gaming experiences. We really value our players and you will be a key part of defining how they interact with our games. You will have a strong understanding of UI Art and Design and have an ability to create sleek, clean and stylish user interfaces. You should be collaborative with the ability to quickly understand and translate requirements into beautiful user experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Designers and the Product Owner to prepare an excellent UI design
  • Collaborate with the Product Owner and Art Director to define an appropriate UI art style
  • Create high quality UI artwork and the associated source assets to match the sleek, high quality visual style of our games
  • Creation of UI wireframe prototypes
  • Work with client engineers to implement well functioning and bug free UI within Unity
  • Design elegant UX layouts in conjunction with the design team, including wireframes and user flow
  • Be required to attend regular design meetings and team presentations.
  • Contribute to planning and scheduling

Requirements

  • Proven UI Art experience within the games industry with a portfolio of work examples
  • Strong logo and iconography design skills
  • Experience of the design workflow, starting from paper level, through wireframes to functioning prototypes
  • The ability to demonstrate a practical understanding of UX/communication design conventions and how they affect player behaviour and be aware of current and emerging trends
  • Excellent visual design skills (sense of proportion, layout, graphical form, typography, colour, composition and negative space)
  • Have a good sense of colour and composition, understand what looks great
  • Technical proficiency with; Photoshop, Illustrator, Unity
  • An interest in working on mobile games
  • A desire to have a big impact within a small empowered team

Senior 3D Artist

We’re looking for an expert Senior 3D Artist to join the team in London and help set the standards for 3D within the studio. You will be proficient in both high and low-poly modelling, sculpting, texturing, lighting and a general expert of 3D pipelines and practices.

Day to day day you’ll create visually impressive props and environments for one of our hit games, within a cross-functional independent team that is empowered to make their own decisions.

In addition to practical skills, you should be able to work independently with minimal input from the AD, act on constructive criticism in a timely manner, show initiative and share your work regularly. As a Senior team member, you will lead by example, inspiring the team, sharing your knowledge and creating industry leading artwork. You’ll also support the Art Director with duties such as mentoring, feature breakdown and time estimations, so this is a great opportunity for a seasoned Leader or someone looking to develop in that area.

Responsibilities

Here at Hutch we have small teams and like generalists who can cover a variety of tasks, a selection of which we have listed below:

  • Leverage a number of different disciplines to create quality art for one of our hit games
  • Taking the initiative with your work, using good decision making skills and communicating/sharing your work regularly with the team
  • Leading by example to the other Artists and been a great bastion of Hutch Culture
  • Make best in class, bar setting environments and hero assets, inspiring the team
  • Help the AD with tasks such as estimating, task management and documentation
  • Mentor the team members and raise the expertise bar within the studio
  • Potentially own projects outside of 3D modelling and texturing depending on the candidate

Requirements

  • You're creative & passionate about games with proven games industry experience
  • Comfortable working in a fast paced, agile environment, with the ability to change between different art styles according to the needs of the product
  • Great communication skills with a passion to share your work, techniques and mentor artists
  • You know how to create polished and distinct gameplay and environment assets with a great eye for silhouette and composition
  • Excellent 3D skills in both high and low poly
  • Experience with hard surface and organic modelling, cars, environment objects and landscape
  • Texturing skills. We like to see the ability to create simple, clean looking textures without an over reliance on noise overlays or photo source
  • Can demonstrate a good use of real time shaders. Familiar with setting up materials such as water, metals and vegetation
  • A strong understanding of lighting principles and experience with either in-game and pre-rendered tools
  • Understanding and experience in technical art and optimisation/technical constraints
  • Expert knowledge of a major 3D package such as Maya, Max or Modo
  • Experience with sculpting packages such as zbrush or Mudbox
  • Being a key stakeholder in pipeline & work flow development

    • Experience with written documentation such as style guides and mood-boards

Head of People

Hutch is looking for a Head of People to join our studio in London. This is a great opportunity to join an award winning studio that has been recognised as being a great place to work and wants someone to help take us to the next level. Product Manager

Hutch are looking for an experienced Product Manager with proven Free to play (F2P) games experience. You will join a cross functional game team, based in London and develop a successful Hutch title.

You should be collaborative, creative and self-motivating. You should have a strong understanding of games, Free to Play and Monetisation. You’ll be working closely within a development team, reporting into a Game Director helping to develop new features and systems.

Hutch supports their employees and helps them develop and grow. We would welcome candidates with proven Product Management expertise and we would also consider strong Designers or Analysts that would like to progress into a Product role.

Responsibilities

  • Dive deeply into our game and develop an expert knowledge of the economy and systems
  • Develop new features and systems for our mobile title that will improve monetisation, engagement, retention and virality
  • Be a key player in the product development, strategic vision, and business operations of a mobile gaming title
  • Explore the best opportunities for the game keeping an eye on commercial outcomes and player experience
  • Own the data operation of your title, including the management/improvement of tools and technology and creating reports to communicate across Hutch
  • Be an expert in understanding the players; identifying strengths, weaknesses and opportunities for growth in the game experience.
  • Work with the developers to define, plan, and iterate game features to a high-quality standard.

Requirements

  • Experience working on a successful mobile F2P game
  • Experience of working in a live operation setting

Game Designer

Hutch is looking for a Game Designer to join the team in London. Reporting directly to the Game Director. The Game Designer will be responsible for crafting the core gameplay experience and ensuring it works in harmony with the wider F2P game structure. Our teams are small and autonomous, so you’d have the chance to work collaboratively and really impact the game and studio. We make racing games, so a desire to help us make the most engaging and successful racing titles in the industry would be ideal.

Responsibilities

  • Help to craft core Gameplay experiences such as track design, car setup/handling, opponent design, progression balancing, customisation, cameras and more
  • Contribute towards game design, including meta-game and economy decisions
  • Work on a small game team, collaborating closely with other Designers, programmers, Artists and Analysts
  • Work with a fast paced environment with a regular release cycle
  • Responsible for balancing complex sets of game data

Requirements

  • Previous experience working as a Designer within the games industry
  • Strong understanding of monetisation and free to play mechanics
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently as part of a small, fast-moving team
  • Working hands-on and being the driving-force behind overall gameplay quality
  • A strong collaborator, who is able to work collectively and iterate on ideas

Server Developer

Hutch are looking for a server engineer to join the team in our central London studio, dedicated to building the next generation of cloud based backend services to power our successful mobile games. The ideal candidate will be motivated by collaborating with a team comprised of other engineers, designers and artists in a way that lets them achieve more than they would individually, with the goal of creating experiences that delight our customers. They will have experience of developing applications for a high load or high concurrency environment and be focussed on delivering robust, well-tested software.

Responsibilities

  • Designing, prototyping and developing application layer code and database schema for new gameplay systems focussing on security, scalability, high availability and high performance
  • Developing new ways to guarantee the robustness of the servers via unit, integration and load testing and profiling
  • Writing tools to empower designers to administrate the online services in a data driven manner
  • Support other engineers through regular peer review
  • Plan for the future in design discussions to make best use of technology
  • Actively spend time researching new technologies and experimenting with new techniques that could be put to use in our games

Requirements

  • Previous and proven commercial experience as a server/network or backend developer, working in a high load environment
  • Strong technical design and code skills in suitable Web technologies and frameworks, including JavaScript/C#/.NET, Node.js, Azure/AWS, SQL/NoSQL, Redis, DC/OS, Docker, Marathon, or similar
  • Broad experience of server/network programming and principles, including database design, replication, load balancing, reliable/unreliable messaging, latency minimisation, security
  • A passion for the latest Web technologies.

Senior Gameplay Programmer

Hutch are looking for a Senior Gameplay Programmer to join the team in our Central London studio. You will be working on one of our successful games within a small cross-functional game team. Collaborating with designers, artists and programmers, you will work in a fast paced and iterative environment working on challenges and problems around making, releasing and maintaining a successful mobile game. This role would suit someone who would like a lot of impact and autonomy, that likes being involved in the decision making process and someone who enjoys working quickly in an agile development environment. We look for people who want to bring their own ideas to the team who want to work across multiple areas and who enjoy the freedom and responsibility of the team owning their own decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Working across a variety of tasks related to game programming Including; gameplay, player controls, game simulation behaviours, AI, meta-game behaviour, user interface, visual effects, audio effects, analytics hooks, and social features
  • Designing and writing code in a maintainable and easily updatable manner, ready for post-launch updates in response to customer feedback
  • Writing tools where necessary to empower artists and designers to make the game as much as possible, and providing mentoring and support to junior programmers
  • Be responsible for the performance of the game, both frame-rate and memory usage
  • Be actively involved in design discussions and prototyping

Requirements

  • Strong technical design and code skills in either C# or C++
  • Proven commercial games development experience within the games industry, we’re open to mobile, console and/or PC development experience
  • At least 2 commercial titles developed from start to release, having gone through a full QA cycle, and preferably beyond post-release support developing updates or DLC
  • A passion/interest for making mobile games and exploring new approaches to development within the Free to Play field
  • A proactive nature, with a desire to have a big impact and take a lot of ownership for your work

Unity Games Engineer

Hutch are looking for a Unity Games Engineer to join the team in our central London studio. You will be working on one of our successful games within a small cross-functional game team. Collaborating with designers, artists and programmers, you will work in a fast paced and iterative environment working on challenges and problems around making, releasing and maintaining a successful mobile game. This role would suit someone who would like a lot of impact and autonomy, that likes being involved in the decision making process and someone who enjoys working quickly in an agile development environment. We look for people who want to bring their own ideas to the team who want to work across multiple areas and who enjoy the freedom and responsibility of the team owning their own decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Working across a variety of tasks related to game programming Including; gameplay, player controls, game simulation behaviours, AI, meta-game behaviour, user interface, visual effects, audio effects, analytics hooks, and social features
  • Designing and writing code in a maintainable and easily updatable manner, ready for post-launch updates in response to customer feedback
  • Writing tools where necessary to empower artists and designers to make the game as much as possible, and providing mentoring and support to junior programmers
  • Be responsible for the performance of the game, both frame-rate and memory usage.
  • Be actively involved in design discussions and prototyping

Requirements

  • Strong technical design and code skills in either C# or C++
  • Proven commercial games development experience within the games industry, we’re open to mobile, console and/or PC development experience
  • At least 2 commercial titles developed from start to release, having gone through a full QA cycle, and preferably beyond post-release support developing updates or DLC
  • A passion/interest for making mobile games and exploring new ways of making development within the Free to Play field
  • A proactive nature, with a desire to have a big impact and take a lot of ownership for your work

UA Manager - Performance Marketing

Hutch are looking for a UA Manager - Performance Marketing to join the team in Dundee. This is a high impact role, working on the activities that directly generate revenue for our studio. Day to day you should be comfortable around data and numbers and a great collaborator, making decisions on strategic direction and working with the broader marketing team. You’ll be working closely with an experienced User Acquisition team, taking responsibilities of UA budgets, making key decisions on bidding as well as getting involved in the day to day tasks.

A UA Manager at Hutch works within the Growth and Insights team and they are responsible for User Acquisition. This is the number of users that our games have and the revenue that is generated through them. UA Managers work across different networking channels and within the app stores to test and refine what the consumer sees related to Hutch games, that ultimately makes them play our games. The goal of the team is to make our games appealing and increase the player base. This is an exciting field that is varied and constantly evolving.

Responsibilities

  • As an UA Manager, your task will be to plan/manage our high-level UA strategy, making decisions on which channels to use, how campaigns are run, and target audiences
  • Managing, analysing and optimising campaigns to ensure that we are maximising the number of players we acquire
  • Supervising, mentoring and training Campaign Managers
  • Make detailed creative briefs and work closely with the Marketing art team on creative optimisation and generating new creative art work for our campaigns
  • Keeping up to date with the field in order to exploit new opportunities
  • You will also help with App Store Optimisation and help refine our approach to measuring true ROAS

Requirements

  • Previous experience working as a UA Manager in the video games industry
  • Previous experience running campaigns on Facebook, Google Ads and other networks
  • Experience managing, maintaining and building relationships with account managers at AdNetwork companies such as IronSource, UnityAds, DSPs etc.
  • Comfortable running and optimising multiple campaigns
  • Degree in Economics, Business, marketing or something similar
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Excellent knowledge of Excel
  • Passion to work within games, with an idea of what makes mobile games succeed or fail and audience demographics

Game Analyst

Hutch is looking for a Game Analyst to join the team in London. You should be a data driven person that obsesses about details. You should also be a great collaborator and communicator, with the ability to explain complex data and concepts to other people. You’ll be working closely within the game teams to analyse and offer predictions for our existing and in development games.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a highly impactful role at a studio that values data, through collaboration with the game teams to analyse data and enable them to make data driven decisions
  • You’ll estimate impact and prioritise different initiatives such as (retargeting/reactivation, CRM, churn prediction, Ad LTV modelling
  • Create models to predict word-of-mouth/k-factor uplift for each game
  • Run a regression to sense-check a 3rd party’s estimate of Ad LTV

2D Marketing Artist

Hutch are seeking a 2D Marketing artist to work within our marketing team, supporting our portfolio of successful mobile games. Our marketing team works closely with the games teams, to promote, showcase and make our games a success. It is a fast-paced and ever developing discipline that plays a huge part in the success of our Studio allowing a huge impact and sense of achievement.

You will work closely with marketing and product teams to create a wide variety of stunning visual work that will show off our games, for marketing purposes, which will be seen by millions around the world

We are looking for a self motivated, pragmatic and iterative person who thrives on the ability to be creative and is happy to engage with the brand guidelines. You will have a passion to work on mobile games and to immerse themselves in the marketable positioning of each game.

Responsibilities

  • Work on Hi-res 2D promotional banners for iTunes and Google Play, Game icons, in-game promotions
  • Compile and edit marketing videos using captured gameplay footage amongst and other assets
  • Compose images, icons and videos using vehicles, characters, logos, environmental elements and gameplay footage to create stunning visual work
  • Work quickly, iteratively and collaboratively with the marketing and games teams taking the time to understand briefs and take onboard feedback

Hutch are looking for a Producer to join the team in London. You should be a great collaborator and team member, believing that Producers help make the teams lives easier. Senior Systems Programmer

Hutch is looking for an experienced Senior Systems Programmer to join the team in our Nova Scotia studio in Canada. We’re a small team that supports the games teams with tools and technology, to enable our games to run and be successful. This is an exciting and varied role, working on tools and technology across multiple platforms (iOS, Android, tvOS, Amazon) using the Unity engine. The team has a lot of autonomy and the ability to make a big impact in an already successful studio.

Responsibilities

  • Working closely with game development teams in London, UK and the technical team in Nova Scotia to solve the many diverse technical challenges involved in developing multiple titles on multiple platforms
  • Tackling a wide variety of technology challenges including, but not limited to, platform ports, automated testing, server development, third-party sdk integration, analytics, social-networking, advertising, and platform-specific features
  • Creating tools and services for teams such as UA, including working with SDK’s and analytics
  • Designing and writing code in a maintainable and easily updatable manner, ready to be used by programmers in the London Studio on multiple game titles both existing and in the future
  • Documenting systems delivered such that they can be used by remote programmers who may not have any prior knowledge of the system.
  • Working closely with stakeholders to ensure clarity of requirements and appropriateness of design. Delivering incremental solutions and seeking feedback to ensure transparency at all times. Adjusting priorities or design approach to changing ideas or business needs

Requirements

  • Previous commercial experience working in a complex technical environment
  • Strong software design and code skills, preferably in C# or C++
  • A keen interest in creating technology to help other developers with a service mindset
