Happy Hutch-A-Versary to Viv! She’s celebrating 3 years at Hutch and is currently a QA Tester in our London office. Keep reading to find out what Viv's all-time favourite Hutch moments are and why she loves the 4 day work week...

The Basics

What’s your job role at Hutch?

I'm an Embedded QA Tester! Basically, I get to tell people I play games for a living! What I actually do is make test plans on how and what to test for an upcoming feature and do the tests on multiple devices.

How many years of Hutch are you celebrating?

Three amazing years!

Being a Hutchie...

What’s been your favourite moment at Hutch?

I don’t really have a single favourite moment, I have several. One favourite is one of our Lunar New Year events in the office where we had different Chinese snacks to try, fortune cookies and designed our own red envelopes! Another is Donutgate - but that’s a story for another time… And lastly, I love all the group outings I participate in with the Anime and Boba groups and the board game nights after work! It’s a lot of fun!

Which 3 words best describe your time at Hutch so far?

Fun, meaningful and cars

If Hutch was a car, what would it be?

A Lamborghini because it’s too good for me.

If Hutch was an animal, what would it be?

A dolphin! It’s a fun and sociable company that strives on teamwork!

What is your favourite Hutch benefit? How do you use it?

The 4 day work week! It’s been an absolute game-changer to have an extra day of rest, to do chores or to book appointments. More companies should do it! It’s been amazing for my mental health!

Viv's role...

What’s the most important thing you’ve learnt at Hutch?

I would say the most important thing I’ve learnt is how important my mental and physical health is. Before when I’ve been unwell or not mentally 100%, I would work through it regardless but now I know it is important to take the time to recover so I'm feeling better and can give my work 110%!

What’s been your biggest challenge?

My biggest challenge has probably been having to juggle my QA responsibilities and my Diversity team responsibilities within a 4 day work week. As part of the Diversity team, we’re responsible for organising and sharing information on special occasions for a wide range of people, such as Ramadan or Down’s Syndrome Day. Organising these events can be quite time-consuming but luckily the Hutch Social Responsibility team has been helping with the Diversity work! I am incredibly glad I can easily ask for help when it’s needed.

What advice would you give to someone interested in doing a similar role?

Practise making test plans and master test suites. They’re such an important part of being a QA tester. Also think out of the box! It helps to ‘try and break the game’.

Car Stuff...

How much do you like cars?

I’m not a car enthusiast but I can still appreciate a nice looking car!

What would be your dream car?

A cute, pastel coloured Fiat 500 Hybrid

What's the coolest car-related thing you've done while working at Hutch?

Probably helping out at the British Racing Greats event at Donnington. A good number of companies brought loads of fancy cars which were used to parade around the track. I got to experience the speed of some of the top tier sports cars and, oh my goodness, were they fast! Safe to say, I probably won’t be in one of those cars again. I also got to meet Sonic the Hedgehog!
