Recruitment

It’s Chris here (Hutch Recruitment Lead), with your monthly careers blog post from Hutch HQ. This month, I'm sharing some tips on how to write a great cover letter when applying for a job with us. Here at Hutch, we recognise the effort and dedication it takes to navigate the intricate landscape of job applications, especially when applying for multiple roles. It can be a challenging endeavour, but within this challenge lies a powerful tool that can set you apart: the cover letter.

Although your resume does the bulk of the heavy lifting when it comes to showcasing your past experiences, a well-crafted cover letter serves as your personal pitch, offering a glimpse into your motivations, personality, and genuine interest in becoming a Hutchie. Let's delve into some of the reasons why cover letters still play a pivotal role in your application process.

Highlighting your suitability for the role

A generic resume may land you in the application pool, but a personalised cover letter can help you swim to the top. We’d recommend tailoring your cover letter to highlight how your skills align with the specific requirements of the role you're applying for. Illustrate how your unique set of experiences and achievements make you an ideal fit for Hutch. Show the hiring team that you've done your research and understand the company's needs.

Highlighting Motivations and Aspirations

What are your motivations and aspirations behind applying for the role? We really value learning about your past experiences, but equally we want to ensure we can provide you with the right environment and necessary resources to do great things. Share specific aspects of the company's projects, values, or culture that resonate with you. This not only demonstrates that you've done your homework but also provides us with insight into what’s important to you.

Revealing Your Personality

Resumes might outline your professional achievements, but they often fall short in capturing your personality. We may be advertising for specific skillsets, but we’re focused on finding the right people first and foremost! Your cover letter is your opportunity to inject character into your application. Share anecdotes, experiences, or personal projects that reflect your values and showcase the qualities that you could add to our studio.

Those are my top tips! Rest assured that each application at Hutch receives careful consideration from our team. In a competitive job market, a well-crafted cover letter is the key to maximising your application's potential. We really appreciate the personal touch it adds, providing valuable insights beyond the resume. Best of luck in your application, and thank you for considering us as the next destination in your professional journey!
