Welcome to MINISTRY OF RACING PART 2: ROGUE AGENTS!

Top Drives goes rogue!

After a joint CIA and MI6 operation goes awry in London, you find yourself pursuing operatives from The System, a criminal organisation trafficking stolen police cars.

The authorities have called off the mission, but Agents Steel and Edwards refuse to stand down. Their cover is blown—but yours isn’t. They’re going rogue, and they need your help.

With no backup, the three of you race to track down The System’s operatives and uncover the location of the stolen cars.

Precision in the city, power off-road, dominance in pursuit - British engineering delivers on every front.

The hunt continues, and the Crown’s finest continue to lead the charge. Here’s a selection of highlights coming your way:

Radford Type 62-2 2023

The British car industry is littered with tiny manufacturers making small-volume sports cars. Kit cars are the most common, but occasionally you’ll find a group of highly experienced engineers that have come together to build something a cut above. Radford is an old name in the industry, as the brand made its name in the 1960s with car modifications for rich owners, but now it’s attached to this: the Type 62-2.

The modern Radford is probably most known for F1 driver Jenson Button’s involvement in the project, and for being a modern interpretation of another brand’s car: the Lotus Europa, or more specifically the Type 62 race car version, hence the Radford’s name.

Radford’s Type 62-2 is based on a much more modern Lotus, the Exige, which means it has a supercharged V6 engine, a manual gearbox and thanks to extensive tuning the engine has up to 605bhp available. Then there’s that stunning bodywork that mixes retro with modern in the best possible way.

Caterham Seven 170R 2022

In 1957 Lotus launched a car so good that it spawned an entire industry building kit cars copying it. The Seven is the basis of an entire company, Caterham, and Brits are still as madly in love with the Seven today as they ever were.

The recipe is so simple: a tiny, lightweight body, rear-wheel drive and a punchy engine to get things moving. In the modern era the engine is the most advanced aspect, and in the 170R model it’s a 660cc Suzuki turbocharged three cylinder unit with 84bhp. It’s only got 440kg to pull along, so performance is decent, but the real story with this model is how much fun it is to drive.

The 170R model is the racier version (there’s also a more road-focused ‘S’) so it comes with a limited slip differential, sports suspension, carbon seats and no windscreen. It could easily be mistaken for a race car by a casual observer, but with a 0-60 time of about seven seconds it’s slower than a lot of family cars. We know which one we’d rather be driving, though.

Lotus Emira Turbo SE 2025

Lotus is the biggest name in the British sports car game. It’s been around for decades, building some of the finest-handling cars in the world and offering handling advice to countless other car makers globally. The Emira is the brand’s most recent sports car and, aside from the latest crop of electric Lotus cars, is probably the furthest departure from the brand’s early models.

Not only is the Turbo SE model only fitted with an automatic gearbox, it’s also heavily turbocharged thanks to the Mercedes-AMG engine with 400bhp and a mega 354lb ft of torque. At 1455kg it’s on the heavy side for a Lotus sports car, although in the broader context of the modern car market, that’s very light indeed.

It’s never about the specs with Lotus, or any British sports car for that matter; the on-road handling is the whole point. The things you can’t check on a spec sheet, like the steering feel or the perfect calibration of the suspension, chassis and running gear. It’s all about the joy of driving.

Ford Supervan 4.2 2023

Ford may be an American brand, but thanks to the firm’s British arm in the mid-to-late 20th Century there are a range of models that are considered to belong to the UK. The Transit van is probably the best example: you would struggle to complete a single journey in Great Britain without seeing at least one Ford Transit. It’s loved by tradesmen, delivery drivers and endless business owners for all sorts of boring reasons, but also by drivers because each generation over the years has probably been the best-driving van you can buy.

The Supervan takes that reputation to the extreme; Ford has built four versions over the years to promote the van, and the latest Supervan 4 then became the 4.2 in 2023 when the brand set its sights on the Pikes Peak International hillclimb.

More aggressive aero added big downforce for better cornering ability, plus Ford reduced the van’s weight and improved the regenerative braking system as well. It’s less powerful than the Supervan 4 as well, but with around 1,400bhp it’s still no slouch. The reduced power helps the 4.2 to optimise power delivery up the notoriously difficult hillclimb.
